Class Description

This workshop is for students who wish to develop their skills and art with an eye to reading like a writer. We will focus on developing the elements of the craft: character, point of view, dialogue, and plot. Each week we will read your work out loud and critique pages in class. As a group, we will establish a working community where we offer constructive criticism in a supportive environment. In addition, we will read sections of MG/YA novels to discuss in class. Learning to read and analyze fiction closely as you write, you will develop your own writer’s voice. We will also share in-class writing exercises. By the end of this class, each student should have a solid first chapter and a working synopsis. A week prior to the first class, the instructor will request the first 20 pages of your novel via email.

Please note: This class will not meet on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th. The last class will be June 4th.
