Class Description
"How can I know what I think until I see what I say?” —E.M. Forster
You are a storyteller, and many of your stories are rooted in your personal experiences. In this class, we will spend the afternoon exploring how to cultivate your unique narrative voice in order to tell your stories. The afternoon will be a mix of writing, reading, and discussion. We’ll look at a few examples of personal narratives, including a long essay, flash nonfiction, a prose poem, and a memoir excerpt. Then, through a series of fun and ruminative exercises, we will explore both our individual narrative styles and the personal stories we want to share.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
