Young Adult Writers Program (YAWP): The Unreliable Narrator in Fiction

Class Description

When a reader picks up our stories, they give us their trust. This is a rare and fantastic gift, one that we are never allowed to squander. We are, however, allowed to play with that belief in the interest of making a story more poignant, intriguing, or even closer to the truth. In this day long workshop we will explore the unreliable narrator. Together, we'll read excerpts, and play with perspective, narrative voice, and the art of the reveal. Students can look forward to plenty of writing prompts and games to get their creative sparks rocketing to life! Come hang out and create your irresistible liars, truth telling fools, and con artists supreme to help breathe new life into an old project, or start up something completely new!

Join GrubStreet’s Young Adult Writers Program (YAWP), a FREE creative writing workshop for Boston-area high schoolers. Our students come from a wide variety of high schools in the Boston area and enjoy cool writing exercises, mingling with fellow young writers, snacks, and an optional open mic. After four great years, YAWP has already been recognized by the Boston Globe as Boston's hub for writing teenagers. You must be 13-18 years to register.
