Class Description
This is not your average poetry class. Slam poetry uniquely combines elements of drama, poetry, oral storytelling, and hip hop spoken word to create one of the most engaging new forms of self-expression. Taught by Regie Gibson, winner of the 1998 National Slam Competition, this workshop will show you how to breathe new life into your writing and how to express yourself succinctly, passionately and with confidence.
*Note: At the end of this class, we'll be holding optional open Slam Team tryouts. You don't need to have a lot of experience. All you need is a desire to learn, be coached, and be a part of a kick-butt Grubbie team of awesomeness! When in doubt, try it out! (Okay, that was a bad rhyme. This is why we need YOU to join us and make us better.) More details about the slam team for Winter/Spring 2018 will be posted on our Slam Team webpage soon.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
