Class Description

If you're working on a middle-grade or young adult novel or graphic novel, then this is the course for you! This class will push you to learn more about the craft of novel writing—and (optionally) graphic storytelling. We will focus on a different craft element each week, such as identifying (or clarifying) the desire of your protagonist, developing supporting characters, drafting scenes and character arcs, and world building. We will look at published MG and YA novels and graphic novels for inspiration. Students will exchange pages for writing workshops and be expected to give others feedback on their projects. You’ll be able to revise or rewrite—and sketch out (for graphic novelists)—a portion of your novel by the end of the course. You’ll also be able to create a working synopsis or chapter summaries for your novel or graphic novel.
