Teen Writing Camp: So You Want to Write a Novel?

No Longer Enrolling

Class Description

This National Novel Writing Month, get the support you need to write a novel … with style. We’ll begin in October with three sessions devoted to getting to know our characters and plot, exploring the worlds of our stories, playing with voice, and crafting a detailed novel outline. Expect lots of writing prompts, story maps, questionnaires, and other planning tools, as well as time to bounce your ideas around. By the end of the month, you’ll have everything you need to begin writing your novel. On November 1, NaNoWriMo officially begins, and we’ll kick into high gear, using class time to celebrate progress, solve sticky story challenges, and crank out words. Your goal is to have an entire draft of a novel (at least 55,000 words!) completed by November 30. This class is designed to support students who plan to dedicate November to writing a novel as part of National Novel Writing Month. Official enrollment in NaNoWriMo is encouraged but not required. To learn more about the program, visit nanowrimo.org.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
