Open Moon 문: Writing Group for Asian and Asian American Writers

Class Description

In Korean, "문" can mean both "text" (文) and "door." Half writing-group, half open-mic, Open Moon is an ungated space for Asian and Asian-American writers, of all levels, writing in any genre, where we can share our experiences, share our work, and cheer each other on. Each week, we will open with a conversation, in which we check in with each other, talk about our lives and our writing, and share our excitements–new projects, new books we've read, stories in the news that grabbed our interest. Then we'll write together: each member can choose to share a prompt. Finally, we'll end with a thirty-minute open mic, during which you can choose to share your work! We're living in troubling times–let's make space for each other. Build community. Network with other Asian/Asian-American writers. Keep our doors open.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
