Class Description

For intensives program alumni only, this online class will focus on workshops with deep revisions in mind, all designed to better prepare a manuscript for submission. Each writer will receive group feedback on two 50-page segments of their novels along with in-class revision tips and strategies from the instructor. Each participant will also receive a 20-minute one-on-one instructor consultation the week after their second workshop, as well as a free Manuscript Mart appointment during Manuscript Month in May of 2026.
Enrollment for this class is open and application-free; however, writers registering for this course will benefit the most if they have a complete/mostly complete novel draft.
Details:
Class meets weekly on Zoom for 2 hours (1 hour per workshop).
The instructor will provide verbal feedback in class—centering on revision strategies—based on their reading of your pages. They will also provide big-picture guidance during your one-on-one meetings.
There’s no expectation of additional assigned readings or craft lectures. The sole focus is group discussion and feedback during class. Only prep needed is reading the student pages assigned for each week.
Students will be scheduled for workshop and one-on-ones in advance via a Google Doc. Given the tight nature of the schedule, adhering to the assigned spots is strongly recommended.
Students are expected to submit an intention/cover letter (1-2p) articulating what they've set out to do in the workshop pages, any context they want to provide for these pages, and any questions they’d like to share. They are also expected to submit an outline of their novel ahead of their first workshop.
The goal of the class is to help alums push their manuscript’s revision process forward by honing in on pages that need revision, with the intention that they can apply the feedback and strategies provided in class to the whole manuscript.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
