Class Description
Understanding the structure and building blocks of a novel fuels creativity, as does support, encouragement, and feedback from peers. In this novel planning practical, writers will benefit from lecture on each of the main components of novel planning (premise, point of view, characters, world building, story beats) and then begin to implement these tools in their own work in progress. The course will alternate between a week of lecture and a week of workshopping. Students will be expected to implement the teachings of each lesson and bring their completed work to class the following week to be read aloud for peer critique. This course is perfect for writers who need the accountability and deadlines in order to jump start their novel outlining. At the end of this course, writers will have all of the building blocks they need to d lay the foundation for their novel.
