Class Description

This course is modeled on National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo): over the course of six weeks, four spent in intensive writing, students will produce first drafts of their novels. The course uses Steinbeck’s classic Of Mice and Men as its primary artistic reference point, with other examples as appropriate. Our instructive texts include No Plot? No Problem! by Chris Baty, founder of NaNoWriMo, and Writing Your First Novel by bestselling local author Hallie Ephron. During class meetings, we focus on the writer’s craft. Students will become adept at creating characters, dialogue, descriptions, setting, and more. Each meeting includes in-class writing as well as dedicated time for supportive peer review of novels in progress.

NOTE: This class takes place at Summit Montessori School, Marino Room, 283 Pleasant Street, Framingham MA, 01701
