Class Description
In this class, for new and experienced poets alike, we will explore and experiment with multimedia poetry—poetry combined with video, still images, audio, typography, animation, movement, live performance, or other content forms. During class we'll view, share, and discuss examples, and then we'll brainstorm and begin drafting or adapting our own poems (or, if students choose, poems in the public domain) for the week’s multimedia poetry assignment. Students will use any tech or traditional tools available to them to generate their multimedia poetry projects. Each week students will share their previous week’s projects, including challenges and problems, in supportive workshop discussions, and begin work on a new project. We will learn about the increasing visibility of poetry through multimedia projects and opportunities to submit, share, publish, or perform multimedia works. Students will be expected to revise and complete six multimedia poetry projects during the course. Laptop or device recommended.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
