Class Description
Are you writing a memoir and need a weekly deadline to keep you on track? This six-week online memoir workshop is open to memoirists at all draft stages and of all experience levels. The main goal of the course is simply to generate new memoir material or revamp dull scenes. Each week, students will read model memoir chapters for inspiration, complete weekly writing assignments, and will engage in craft talks and writing prompts. Each student will also get the opportunity to have one polished memoir excerpt workshopped by the class and instructor. Students will leave the class with six new memoir scenes.
This class is classified as a generator, which means the focus of the class is on generating new work. Students will discuss each other's work in cohorts facilitated by the instructor, but the emphasis is not on formal critique. Students will have the opportunity to submit one revised piece to the instructor at the end of class to receive a critique and recommendations on next steps.
*Note that while our handy dandy "Schedule" tab states a 6-7pm class time, there are actually no live meetings for this class! Assignments will be given on a weekly basis. Students will have access to the online class portal starting at 5pm, November 1st. Instructions for logging onto the online portal will be emailed to registered students before 5pm the first day of class.
