Class Description

This class is for SFF writers with workshop experience, a solid foundation in matters of craft and worldbuilding, and a partial or complete first draft. The goals of this workshop are to write or revise at least 100 pages in ten weeks, to strengthen worldbuilding through the Sanderson Method (depth over breadth), and to push at the boundaries of "genre fiction" and "literary fiction" through emphasis on experimentation and craft. Each class will be split between workshop and craft practice. Students will be given responsibility to help shape the class and decide what topics to focus on. Workshop will be divided into small and large-group sessions so that each writer will submit a total of 5 times. This course is designed for students working on novels; short story submissions will be discouraged. Students may be asked to make short presentations or pursue limited research outside of class.

It will also ask you to upload a 5-10 page writing sample. Please make sure this writing sample is in Microsoft Word, double-spaced, and in 12-point font. For tracking purposes, your name should appear in the file name (e.g. Smith. Story Title.Submission). Decisions will be emailed to applicants approx. 1 week after the deadline. You can also track the status of your application in your Grubstreet profile. Please make sure your application is complete before you finally click "APPLY." Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
