Class Description
This class is designed for students who have taken Master Novel in Progress or something similar and have completed a first draft (or second or eighth!) that they want to troubleshoot. The workshop will focus on what is working in your novel and what can be improved. Students will take home 100 pages of a manuscript from one of their fellow students every week (submissions may be from any part in the manuscript), a chapter-by-chapter outline of the novel in progress (included in the 100 pages), and a cover letter from the author stating what they think needs work and what shouldn't be commented on. Writers will receive written feedback on their manuscripts—at least a page of commentary from their fellow writers and a longer one from the instructor—as well as a three-hour workshop designed for that writer's needs. This course is ideal for writers wanting to enter the Novel Incubator with a better idea of how best to strengthen their work and polish it for publication. GrubStreet writers who have graduated from Jenna's workshop with novels that have then been published include Amin Ahmad, Iris Gomez, Henriette Power, E.B. Moore, and Anna Solomon, among others. Class size is limited to 9 students.
The deadline for this class has passed. Applicants will hear back the week of December 15th.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
