Make A Comic! - Remote!

Class Description

This class will guide students in making their own comics. No prior drawing experience is necessary; this class is suitable for everyone from beginners to professional artists. Students will learn how to make personal memoir comics, fictional comics, and more. We'll draw on personal experience, family stories, and genre fiction through a series of writing and drawing exercises both in class and at home. Students will benefit from the open, inclusive atmosphere of the group class by sharing work with fellow students in a non-judgemental discussion format. Find your storytelling magic here, and create something that has not existed before now: your comics, your stories.

"Hot Comb," by Ebony Flowers; "The Best We Could Do," by Thi Bui; "Gurl Stories and Normel Person," by Lauren Weinstein; "Dykes To Watch Out For" and "Fun Home," by Alison Bechdel; "Dirty Plotte," by Julie Doucet; "A Child's Life," by Phoebe Gloeckner, and many more!

This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
