Class Description
Whether you’ve never written creatively or you’re a more experienced writer looking for new inspiration, your mission in this course is simple: kick off 2024 by devoting three hours of your week to writing. Through a series of thought-provoking and fun writing exercises, we will mine our experience and imagination for material and use it to construct characters and setting, shape dialogue, create imagery, and explore the nuances of voice and story structure. We will discuss the process of writing and the strengths and weaknesses of the work we produce in class. With an eye on craft and an openness to inspiration, we’ll read and discuss a selection of published short fiction by a variety of writers.
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood.
