Class Description

Ready to take your middle grade or young adult writing to the next level? Whether you’re polishing a novel, revising a short story, or finally tackling that project you’ve been stuck on, this workshop offers the structure, feedback, and community to help you move forward.

Each week, you’ll share work-in-progress and receive thoughtful feedback from fellow writers who share your passion for writing for young readers. We’ll also discuss the revision process, analyze excerpts from published MG and YA authors, trade book recommendations, and—time permitting—generate new material through prompts and exercises.

This class is designed for writers actively working on a middle grade (ages 8–12) or young adult (ages 13–18) project. Whether you’re aiming to publish, finishing a story for your grandkids, or simply want to deepen your craft, you’ll find a supportive space to grow your writing and connect with a community of fellow storytellers.

Writing Roadmap: We've created a simple, goal-based writing roadmap to help you find the perfect GrubStreet course for your writing needs.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
