Class Description
This workshop is designed for advanced poets seeking to refine their craft and develop new work. Participants will explore the essential elements of poetry—language, the line, forms, and the interplay of narrative and lyricism—to enhance the texture and meaning of their poems.
Throughout the course, poets will engage with their own writing by crafting and revising eight original pieces. They will receive close readings and constructive feedback, aimed at helping them refine their voices and consider new approaches. The workshop will also address methods for sharing their work, including public readings and publication options.
Guided by the works of established poets such as Danez Smith, Victoria Chang, Nikki Finney, Jericho Brown, Sam Sax and others, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of poetic techniques and connect with peers in a supportive environment.
Please note: Class does not meet Monday, February 17th.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
