Class Description
You’ve been through the workshop ringer, revised and restructured that early draft, and your final draft is ready. Now what? This course will cover all the murky, daunting steps between your first sentence and your first acceptance: submission letters, researching journals, dealing with rejections, and how to break through the slush pile.
In six weeks, each participant will submit twice: an early draft and then a revision of that story. Our class time will be divided between workshops, hands-on breakdowns of published work, and practical advice about what editors at journals and magazines might be looking for
Each participant will finish with a story ready to submit to publications and an opportunity to meet one-on-one with the instructor to further discuss their story and/or their specific writing goals and plans. Alongside workshop stories, we will read and discuss published works by authors like Haruki Murakami, Jhumpa Lahiri, George Saunders and Deborah Eisenberg.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
