Class Description

Spoken word uses the magic of poetry and performance to spread a powerful message. In this workshop, students will write and workshop poems that allow them to express themselves authentically. Using inspiration from spoken word and slam poets across time, we will generate ideas for the stories we feel most passionate about telling. Students will also learn performance techniques that allow them to build confidence in their artistic voice and written work. Writers will leave with a foundation for spoken word poetry, the draft or start to a new spoken word piece, and performance techniques to build confidence in their voices on and off the page. For writers of all experience levels, age 13 - 18 ONLY. We always end with a cross-class open mic where all sessions' students are invited to share and listen to each other's work!
