Class Description

This class will be hosted remotely! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! If you have questions about remote learning, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more information.

Class Description: If you love storytelling, have always wanted to write a novel, and are keen to turn off that inner editor who might be holding you back, then sign up for NaNoWriMo: YAWP Edition!

For 30 days writers take up the fun, ambitious, and surprising challenge of writing an entire novel draft in a month to celebrate NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Participants begin writing November 1 and must finish by 11:59 PM on November 30. It doesn’t have to be pretty or polished. It’s a sprint to the finish!

This multi-session class is designed to be encouraging, fun, and inspiring. You’ll become a part of a supportive writing community that will cheer for you every step of the way toward our YAWP goal of 25,000 words. Each session of NaNoWriMo: YAWP Edition! will focus on a specific craft aspect of novel writing, in-class writing prompts, short readings to foster thoughtful discussion, and other engaging activities to get the creative juices flowing. This class is for both the veteran and new YAWPer. All genres are encouraged and welcome! Come to one or all sessions!

You spent November writing your novel, so what's next? In this class we will celebrate what we accomplished in November, discuss what we learned and how our stories might have have changed. We will revisit our "lighthouse" premises that we wrote in October, and rewrite them based on what we learned in November. We'll also also look at the craft of scene editing and talk about revision techniques.

Series Schedule:
[Remember, you don’t need to commit to all of them! Attend as many as you can! The key is to just write with a supportive community!]

October 17th: The Spark, The Lighthouse, The Plan

November 21st: Write-a-Thon Day!

December 12th: What's Next for You and Your Novel

Who Should Register?
For writers ages 13 - 18 ONLY. Writing notebooks are available, but feel free to bring your own.

Remember, parents/guardians must also complete this permission form online before the start of the class. Otherwise, registrations could be voided and the cancellation policy will apply. If the student is 18, simply let us know at [email protected]

*If you are registering on behalf of your teen, add their email information in the “For a Friend or Child?” field on the right-hand side of the screen before you check out. This will send them a direct link and reminder to create their own profile with GrubStreet.
(After adding the class to your cart, click "Checkout" and click “Add” next to “For a Friend or Child?” on the right-hand side to fill in their email. This is an easy way of linking the class to your child and encourages them to create their own account.)
