Class Description
Whether your stories are driven by plot, character, or language/imagery, every story needs movement. A sense of journey. Something important must change from start to end, with illumination (at least for the reader) along the way. In this seminar, we will look at tools and techniques to create a compelling journey, then tips and strategies to be sure you convey that journey—and its significance—scene by scene to readers. We will discuss examples from writers such as Robert Lopez, Marie-Helene Bertino, and NoViolet Bulawayo. In-class exercises and practical takeaways will ensure you have the means to apply these tools going forward. Primarily geared to short story writers, this could apply for all narrative writers.

Class Format
This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
Scholarship Information

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
