Class Description

Are you excited but nervous about attending your first big writing conference? Learn some dos and don'ts when approaching agents, editors and authors at a writing conference, whether it's Grub Street's Muse & the Marketplace or AWP. Get some practice, too, fine-tuning and then delivering an elevator pitch, a skill which will come in handy whomever you meet. An author and an experienced schmoozer with more than three decades in journalism, the instructor also will share tips from an array of agents and authors and social media etiquette as well.

Bring: A one- to two-paragraph max elevator pitch answering this question: So, what are you working on?

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood.
