Class Description
Think Matilda, Toni Morrison’s Beloved, or the iconic book-turned-film, The Princess Bride—all of these stories incorporate just a hint of magic, also known as magical realism.
The genre known as magical realism incorporates magic into an otherwise realistic or typical setting. This class will delve into the basics of this genre, including some history and notes on its cultural relevance in varying styles within literature. After engaging in an interactive warm-up to establish a foundational understanding, we'll work on a longer writing project. There will be time provided for students who are interested to share and discuss their work.
Expect to leave with a greater understanding of magical realism and a completed or well-established start to a short story after this class.

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
