How to Write When You Have No Time

Class Description

This course is focused on creative approaches to using small snippets of time for your writing practice (10 minutes, 15 minutes, even 5 minutes). Students will engage in a combination of exercises aimed at distinguishing different aspects of generating and completing a project, such as envisioning, revision, freewriting, and more!

We will identify go-to strategies for writing productively with different increments of time available. We will reframe what "writing time" can mean in a life that feels as if it has no "space" for writing. We will then discuss different ways of looking at a weeklong schedule (realistic—i.e. what actually happens in a given week, vs. idealistic—how we think we "should" allot our time) to identify pockets of writing time allowing us as diverse writers to have satisfying, productive "time to write" that may not look at all like traditional writing time.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!

Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
