Class Description
Whether you're interested in writing an essay, memoir, short story or novel, this class will teach you the basics of telling stories inspired by your own life. Everyone has a story to tell. In this class, you'll learn how to dig into key events in your life—from moments of great joy to the most confounding or traumatic—and turn them into the stories you've been longing to tell.
Instructor Andrea Meyer will use readings and writing exercises to explore such topics as how to describe emotion; transforming your self, friends and family into characters; how to write scenes; basic essay structure; and learning to show AND tell. You will walk away with the pieces necessary to get started on your writing project.
Memoir excerpts and essays might include Ordinary Girls by Jaquira Diaz; Wild by Cheryl Strayed; The Chronology of Water by Lidia Yuknavitch; The Fourth Estate of Matter by Jo Ann Beard; After 264 Haircuts, A Marriage Ends by William Dameron; At the Movies by Jonathan Lethem; A Cold Current by Jesmyn Ward, and more!
Session Length: 90 minutes
Meeting Information:
This class will meet TWICE! Once on 11/6 and again on 11/20 from 12:00PM - 1:30pm. Come to just one or both!
