About Willona
Willona has published non-fiction, fiction and poetry in literary journals that include BlazeVOX, The Rumpus, Bohemia and Remolinos (the blog of riverSedge). She has more than 15 years of experience working as a staff writer and editor, and she currently consults with nonprofit organizations and corporate clients. As a freelance writer, Willona has published in publications that include Paste, Publisher’s Weekly, Fresh Cup and DCist. She is also the managing editor and curator of Black Coffee & Vinyl Presents: Ice Culture (2019), which features art, music and literature from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica ( www.blackcoffeevinyl.com)
Willona teaches writing workshops and hosts literary events that use literature and creative writing to foster dialogue and enhance cultural understanding. She has taught creative writing workshops at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery (DC), and she also has led workshops in Iceland, Canada and virtually in Serbia. She has received two Artist Fellowship awards from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and participated in several artist residencies and writing workshops. Willona earned a BA in English from the University of Virginia and an MA in Literature from American University.
