About Lorena
Lorena Hernández Leonard is a Colombian immigrant writer, storyteller, and filmmaker whose essays and articles appear in KHÔRA, Pangyrus, and WBUR's Cognoscenti, among others. Her work has been recognized as a notable in the Best American Essays, as a finalist for the PEN America Emerging Voices Fellowship and the CRAFT Creative Nonfiction Award, and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and the Best of the Net. She has received support for her memoir by GrubStreet as a Pauline Scheer Fellow, the Mass Cultural Council, Tin House, and Juniper Writing Institute. And, along with her husband, Lorena produced an award-winning animated short film that was longlisted for the Oscars. Lorena is former Editor-in-Chief of Solstice Literary Magazine and is an alumna of the Memoir Incubator and Memoir Generator programs. She is represented by Veronica Goldstein at Dunow, Carlson and Lerner.
