Class Description
What makes a good story? What makes a memorable character? What makes us want to read more of our favorite fiction? In this class, we’ll explore important elements of successful fiction, including character, story structure, voice, and detail. Through readings and discussions, we’ll cover how to structure stories from beginning to end, and how to make writing bold, vital, and realistic. We will work with short stories and write short exercises of our own.
The class will include discussions, analyzing the literary craft at work the stories we read. We will also do weekly prompts and writing exercises to improve our own approach to fiction. There will be short workshops, during which students will critique each other’s writing, so that you can continue expanding and revising your work when the class is done.
