Poetry II for Teens

No Longer Enrolling

  • $325.00 Non-Member
  • $300.00 Member

Class Description

[Classes marked as “full” can still have scholarship spots available. So apply! More information is listed below.]

Class Description:

Keep writing! Have you already been inspired by a writing class at Grub, and want to take it to the next level with your poetry? Are you stuck on that one draft, or want a better grasp of sonnets? Do you have a notebook full of drafts and outlines or an established writing routine, but want to keep it fresh? Poetry II is for the more experienced YAWPer who wants to keep it up! We will workshop your existing drafts, practice skills using new and more advanced exercises, and learn more about sub-genres such as epics, prose poetry, and science fiction poetry! By the end of the class, you will have several final or near-final drafts of some favorite pieces, a list of writing resources moving forward, and a portfolio that highlights the steps of your writing process. This course is geared towards open-minded creative writers who still find themselves excited by a writing prompt. Writing notebooks will be available, but feel free to bring your own. For writers age 13 - 18 ONLY.

Note: This class is intended for more experienced YAWPers. To sign up, you need to fulfill one of the requirements below:

4 or more YAWP Saturday classes or

2 or more Teen Summer or vacation week classes or

YAWP Slam Team member (past or present) or

GrubStreet Teen Summer Fellowship

Parents/guardians must also complete this permission form online before the start of the class.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

GrubStreet is happy to be able to offer a limited number of full scholarships for our teen writing camps. To apply for a scholarship, please click the "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" link above, and complete the online form describing why you want to take the teen writing camp and detailing your financial need. Please wait to hear from our Scholarship committee before registering for the class, as scholarships cannot be applied retroactively. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is Wednesday, August 1st at 5pm.

*If you are registering on behalf of your teen, add their email information in the “For a Friend or Child?” field on the right-hand side of the screen before you check out. This will send them a direct link and reminder to create their own profile with GrubStreet.

(After adding the class to your cart, click "Checkout" and click “Add” next to “For a Friend or Child?” on the right-hand side to fill in their email. This is an easy way of linking the class to your child and encourages them to create their own account.)

Scholarships Format/Location

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
