Class Description
Over the course of this ten-week workshop, you will develop a short story from its initial seed, through a series of guided revisions, to a polished work of fiction. The approach of the course is modeled after Antonya Nelson’s brilliant essay "Short Story: A Process of Revision." Unlike traditional workshops, participants in this class need not arrive with a finished work of fiction but rather should come with some solid story ideas, an open mind, and a willingness to stretch themselves to new challenges. We will work together to develop one of your ideas into a full narrative, taking each story through a series of guided revisions at home, small group workshops in class, discussions of relevant published work, and ultimately a full workshop and written critique. This course is designed to be of use to students of all levels, including writers just beginning their journeys and experienced authors seeking a fresh approach.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
