Class Description
Octavia Butler said, "There's nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns." We each write under the light of our own "sun": our worldview, the lessons we've learned along the way, the futures we hope for, our moral compass. When we write, we convey a bit of ourselves and what we know to be true in our stories. When we're stuck or when we're feeling uninspired, it might be because we haven't been truthful about the type of story we want to tell or what bit of ourselves we want to share with the world. Ultimately, being a storyteller is a vulnerability and a choice to share. What and how is up to you.
During this seminar, we will do some mindmapping and prompted journaling to explore ourselves, our truths, and what knowledge we want to share in our stories. We'll think about how we see the world and how the "sun" of our worldview illuminates the stories we write. We'll discuss how to use our maps and prompts to help us get unstuck and fuel future stories.
This seminar is for anyone who is feeling a little stuck, feeling uninspired, or is wondering how to make their stories feel a little more personal and rich. All you need is blank paper, notebook, or note taking software. Sharing will not be expected, though there will be invitations to do so if you're open.
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.

This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood.
