Class Description
Boston in 100 Words continues an initiative which is almost 20 years old. Originating in Santiago de Chile in 2001, as a contest where people shared their experiences with the city in 100 words, this global writing project has now expanded to cities in Mexico, Colombia, Poland, The Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia. And Boston will become the first American city to join.
In this 90-minute drop-in class, we’ll craft our own 100-word stories about Boston (and surrounding towns) and submit them because, as the contest maintains, “storytelling is a powerful social tool that connects individuals to each other despite our differences.”

This class will also be a space to work on submissions in general. So, along with good food and good company to ease your time in the submission trenches, we’ll also have some funding available to help with other submission opportunities which may come with fees. (Boston in 100 Words does not require any submission fees.)
The Mattapan Branch will be holding an identical event on Saturday, Oct. 5th, 12:00 to 1:30pm!
Families welcome. Coffee and snacks provided. Teens are welcome to attend with an older relative. We will provide simple activities to keep young children occupied.
Who Should Register?
Write Down the Street has a special focus on making the creative writing workshop more accessible to those who face challenges due to cost, language skills, lack of access to transportation, and other barriers. We believe that all voices must be spotlighted with the range and fullness they deserve.
These programs are offered tuition-free thanks to the support of generous donors who are committed to our mission of ensuring all voices are heard.
Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
