Class Description
It's the new year—time to commit (or re-commit) yourself to writing! In this seminar, via discussion and exercises, we’ll inspire you to take the baby steps or big leaps necessary to realize your writing ambitions for 2018, regardless of your genre. First, we'll debunk common myths about being a writer and face some tough realities that threaten to stand in your way. Then we'll discuss concrete strategies to help you become the writer you want to be, including: how to combat psychological issues such as fear of failure, writer's block, and rejection; what sacrifices are necessary to make time for your craft and build a career; and how to develop tools, skills and resources to network and get your work out there. You'll leave with a set of goals and an action plan with built-in accountability to make it all happen. Not only that, but you’ll have forged new connections with a community of fellow writers. We'll end with you making progress, in class, on some writing project for 2018, so please bring a notebook and drafts/outlines if you have them. For beginners or anyone looking to re-inspire themselves as writers in the coming year.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
