Class Description

Creating a community literary project can be daunting. Where do you start? How do you find help and resources? How do you manage your time and energy? And, what are some best practices when navigating service to more vulnerable populations?
In this free session—designed to bring together Grub Street instructors and students—we will cover some of the issues that commonly arise during project creation, implementation, and sustainability. Instructors and students will have an opportunity to bring examples of past literary projects and share about projects they’d like to create in the future. Projects could include: writing workshops in hospitals, nursing homes, libraries, community centers, prisons, and more; also, creating: open mics, reading series, local festivals, journals, presses, and more. In the latter portion of the session, you will be led through a process that can move you towards creating your own new, exciting, and sustainable literary projects!
This session is part of a series on “literary citizenship.” Honesty, humility, and generosity will be at the heart of this gathering, so please come ready to contribute and to listen.

Zoom Participation:

In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.

Zoom Accessibility:

You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
