Class Description
In this workshop, writers will get a crash course on how a book is made via the traditional publishing route. We still discuss conceptualizing a story from idea to manuscript: how to choose an idea, how to plot and keep yourself motivated to finish the book, and how to get the right eyes on your manuscript to polish it to a high shine. Then we will move into discussing the pros and cons of literary agents, how to write a query letter and a synopsis that will attract attention, and how the query process typically works. Finally, we'll talk about what happens after signing with an agent and how the submission process to editors at publishing houses typically works, from choosing the right imprints to comparing contracts and advances to fielding preempts and auctions. I will share my personal experience and insight, and though publishing is not one-size-fits-all and every journey looks different, this will be a chance for writers to get a look at the behind-the scenes of trad pub.
