Thoughtful Feedback Moderation Part Two: A Discussion of Critical Response Process

Event Description

In this professional development class offered to GrubStreet instructors only, you’ll explore and discuss feedback methods that push the way all workshop members (including instructors) give and receive feedback in writing workshops. Part book discussion and part method exploration, this session is designed to prompt us to reflect on how to continue our efforts to make writing workshops more meaningful, effective, and helpful to all students by being mindful of our own ties to tradition, cultural silos, and assumptions. There will be time reserved for Q&A as well.

This is Part One of a two-part class, although each session can stand alone. Part One will be in-person and Part Two will be online via Zoom. If you would like a copy of the class text, Critique Is Creative by Liz Lerman, please complete this form no later than January 28, 2026.  Even if you cannot attend the sessions, you may request a free copy of the book, in case there are remaining copies.

Registration is required, and if for any reason you cannot attend, please withdraw from the class so waitlist instructors have the opportunity to attend. Thank you!

A little bit about our instructor:
Lise Brody is an active, long-time GrubStreet community member and graduate of our Novel Incubator program. She’s also certified in Critical Response Process, which she has been using for more than thirty years in contexts ranging from high school creative writing classes, to graduate school advising, to teacher support groups.
