Class Description
This workshop is designed for writers working on a variety of personal essay and memoir projects who want to receive regular feedback in a supportive and constructively critical environment. Each week, three to four students will bring in up to 10 pages (approx. 3,000 words) of a personal essay draft or memoir excerpt, to be workshopped the following week. Depending on enrollment, each student should expect to be workshopped at least three times. The workshop will include discussions on the craft of personal essay and memoir writing based on students' needs, goals, and issues as they arise. There will also be some reading assignments drawn from exemplar works in the genre. The instructor will offer written feedback on one complete draft of any single essay or memoir chapter.
Please note: There will be no class on April 6th.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
