Class Description
There’s often a misconception among writers that once your first book is published, everything changes or gets easier. The truth is that completing a brand-new full-length project and finding a home for it can present its own set of possibilities and challenges. It can be difficult for writers to feel like they can recreate the magic of their debut, or perhaps there’s internal pressure to build on it and find greater success. Longtime publishing veteran Christine Pride will discuss strategies on how writers can stay focused and motivated after their first book. She will also share an overview of how editors and publishers might engage—similarly or differently—with your sophomore manuscript, and what you can do to prepare. You can expect to leave this session with a stronger sense of what comes next and inspired to trust your own writing and publishing process, no matter the new challenges.
NOTE: Even if you don’t have a book yet, this session will be informative for those looking to eventually have a multi-book career.

Zoom Participation:
In our experience, the intimate nature of a writing workshop benefits from on-camera participation. Students are of course welcome to turn their camera off whenever they need to, but it is a community norm for cameras to be on most of the time. You can learn more about using Zoom here.
Zoom Accessibility:
You can enable closed captioning at any time during the meeting by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the screen. If you'd like to access the transcript after class, please make sure to let your instructor ahead of time that you'd like a copy.
