About Trā
Travon (he/him) joined GrubStreet’s community after years of simultaneously teaching and coaching across various nonprofits and collegiate institutions. While his efforts in class and on the track earned him the titles of NCAA DIII Scholar Athlete of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-American, he began viewing his extracurricular interests as extra-curriculum studies of self with regard to the overlapping worlds in which the self occupies. Travon has since paneled for the South Central Modern Language Association and Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conferences, served as a member of the NESCAC Coaches of Color Consortium, and facilitated several cross-cultural writing symposiums and celebrations of race in the English classroom. He has also volunteered as a submissions reader for The McNeese Review and Persona Literary Journal as well as an application reader and consulting member of the Boston Youth Poet Laureate’s Advisory Council. Travon’s writing has appeared in Persona and Five2One magazine, while also being named a finalist for Redivider’s Blurred Genre Contest. As GrubStreet’s Manager of Youth Programs, the former DIII National Champion combines his passions for writing, teamwork, and mentorship to teach a holistic approach to writing that welcomes interdisciplinary play from writers of all skill levels. Travon earned an M.F.A. in Poetry and an M.A. in Literature from McNeese State University, while also holding a B.A. in English with extensive studies done in Secondary Education and Ethnic and Gender Studies from Westfield State University. He is a certified BEST Youth Worker and Youth Mental Health First Aider, and was an INP Community Fellow.Interests
