Level: For Everyone
Adult (18+)

This two-part class is designed to help writers engage in the creative process and work on writing a piece of nonfiction regarding the experience of motherhood. The class will focus on the mothering relationship as an integral part of the human experience. We will have the space and structure for you to explore your unique voice and perspective as well as gather tools for developing your writing further. Participants will find it helpful to have read in advance Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life.

The writer's experience of motherhood--mothering or being mothered--will serve as the source and subject for at least one completed essay. Participants will bring with them a draft in any stage and use that to begin. Each of the two workshops will fine-tune and build upon the writing, revision, and polishing process. We will read our work aloud and offer constructive feedback to others in a supportive environment, enriching our own creative process in turn. Participants will also learn where to submit their work for possible publication, and, if all are interested, create a collaborative blog to provide an additional audience for that work.
