Using extensive examples from contemporary children's literature, this class will explore the challenges of writing for picture book and middle grade readers. Each week we will look at a different aspect of children’s writing, including questions of plot, structure, character, voice, and theme. The class will include writing exercises and group critique. Students will receive a detailed instructor critique of one complete picture book or early reader manuscript or 10-12 pages of a middle grade project submitted at the end of the class.
*Note: This class will not take place on February 19th, 2015
