The act of writing is often a disembodied practice, and as a result, can weaken our ability to write vividly. Yet, as readers, we can all recall a piece of writing, screen work, or theatre that viscerally left a mark on us. In this skill based workshop, you will learn embodied writing techniques from a playwright and actor. Whether you are a fiction writer, a memoirist, or a playwright, incorporating these embodied writing techniques will create a more vivid reading/viewing experience for your audience. The workshop will include a light craft discussion, skill-based exercises, and generative writing prompts that allow you to put the embodied methods into practice. We will focus on how to fully connect with our characters, settings, and the behavior of conflict, therefore equipping you with the skills to mine all of the senses on the page and stage.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
