Level: For Everyone
Adult (18+)
12 seats max
Only 3 spots left!

When to Submit focuses on knowing when to begin submitting to literary journals. In addition to discussing how to know a story is ready, we will go over submission etiquette, including choosing the proper magazines to submit to, how to appropriately submit to journals, various submission platforms, and how to write effective cover letters. The instructor will offer a presentation on a specific literary journal they have experience with–as both a reader and contributor, including the editing process after acceptance–as a lens for our discussion. Students will work in groups to discuss literary journals that may be the best fits for them, and they will draft various types of cover letters, which will then be workshopped in class. Finally, we will discuss strategies to cope with wait times and rejection.

This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! If you have questions about remote learning, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more information.
