WDtS Egleston: Pieces of Me: Writing About Ethnicity

Where are you from? No. Where are you really from? Whether you have ever been on the receiving side of this question— or whether you have asked it of someone else— we need to talk (and write!) about ethnicity. Participants will leave with the first draft of a poem or personal essay, and will get the opportunity to share their work in progress and receive on-the-spot feedback from the instructor and peers (clear guidelines for feedback will be provided and diligently moderated). In this ninety-minute class , we’ll commit to creating a safe and supportive container so that writers can create and share bravely and authentically.

Families welcome. Coffee and snacks provided. Teens are welcome to attend with an older relative. We will provide simple activities to keep young children occupied.

Write Down the Street has a special focus on making the creative writing workshop more accessible to those who face challenges due to cost, language skills, lack of access to transportation, and other barriers. We believe that all voices must be spotlighted with the range and fullness they deserve.
