The language of line breaks is a generative and editorial workshop where participants will see the power in intentional line breaks and lineation. This workshop will serve as an example of how to use visual poetry, block form and the terzanelle as a way of uplifting our poetic voices. Line breaks can inform the reader of intention by taking up space or allowing extra space to change the understanding and urgency of a poem. At the end, we can generate and share a new poem from an existing one, asking the questions: how can this poem be more powerful? How does the poem express itself back to me differently from its original form? We will be reading poetry from contemporary writers such as Lyn Patterson, Jason Crawford, Taylor Byas, & an Anthology of Erasure poems.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
