Class Description:

Forget about the boring nonfiction you have to read for class! In this week, we'll read and write nonfiction that's just as imaginative and creative as any other genre. We'll experiment with writing memoir, flash essays, and book and film reviews to discover the fun in nonfiction. Students will have a chance to try out all of these forms and open up their writing journeys to styles and structures they may not have considered before. We'll share our work with each other to give and receive feedback while learning different workshopping styles. For writers age 13 - 18 ONLY. This class was previously listed as, August Week of Creative Writing (B): Forget What You've Heard About Nonfiction

Students will leave with a greater knowledge of nonfiction genres and how to write them, as well as a better idea for the next steps of their long and winding writing paths.

Class Format:

This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood. Students who need an MBTA pass to commute to class and/or a lunch stipend can request one using this form. Snacks, pens, notebooks and chromebooks (limited amount) will be provided!
