Promoting Your Book: An Author and Publicist Reveal Their Tools of the Trade
When an author's book is nearing its publication date, great anxiety sets in over one of the most daunting challenges—promoting the book. Authors often feel powerless and worry about getting reviewed by the biggest publications, landing on NPR shows, or building a buzz. They may be tentative about reaching out to their in-house publicist and have no idea how to make good connections. In this three-hour seminar, first-time author Linda K. Wertheimer and her in-house publicist, Caitlin Meyer, publicity manager at Beacon Press, will work to assuage writers' concerns and provide concrete tips for the promotion of their own books. Linda and Caitlin formed a strong partnership that has now lasted more than a year after the publication of Linda’s book. Working together, they came up with a plan to promote the book in a variety of ways: through interviews on radio and TV, commentaries, essays, and landing big-time reviews, and they will now be sharing these experiences so that others can create specific plans for their own projects.
