This class is for everyone who needs a little adjustment when it comes to their relationship with poetry. Maybe you’ve written poems for years but find the spark has faded, maybe you’re just beginning and you need to charge up your battery, maybe you’re intrigued, want to start writing, but need to revise your old ideas of what a poem is. No matter where you’re starting from, this class will help you cultivate a beginner’s mind, find a fresh approach, get excited by new poems and ideas, and return to your work with flexibility and purpose. We will use freewriting, meditation exercises, prompts, discussion and imitation of poems by established poets, erasure and radical revision, and mini-workshops to jump-start new writing habits, rituals, and relationships to our own poems, all in a culture of friendliness, good humor, exploration, and support.

This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! If you have questions about remote learning, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more information.

For a glimpse at how remote learning works, look no further than the deep Zoom discussion of writing and literature below:
