Seeing as every story is unique, every revision process should be too. If you have an early draft of a full length play, maybe a few scenes, or a strong beginning and end in need of a solid middle, now is the time for you to finish and sculpt. This class is geared towards intermediate playwrights with an early draft in progress who want to complete, then extensively workshop and revise their work. The course will begin with craft-based writing exercises geared towards learning a multitude of revision styles. Close readings of essays by the likes of Sarah Rhul and Matthew Salesses; award-winning plays by Lynn Nottage, John Logan, Dipak Guha, and Quiara Alegría Hudes. Then, you will transition into workshops of your pages which will consist of an in-class reading of a draft, followed up by Liz Lerman based feedback, as well as small group breakout sessions, and one-on-one meetings with the instructor over extensive line-by-line notes. The course will culminate with an in-class submission binge where you will have the opportunity to craft your Statement of Purpose, articulate your goals, and send a final draft out into the world!

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
